June 5, 2010: Evening I returned from Mexico this evening to find out that Katy Perry needs to change her “glam time” (i.e. getting prepped for the show) for the MTV movie awards tomorrow to the morning. I’m a bit concerned because I’m already booked most of the morning. And it’s just as I thought: she wants to start at 11:30 a.m. and—yikes!—I’m already booked! Plus, my niece Breanna has just arrived in Los Angeles to stay for the summer and Katy has offered me two extra tickets to the awards so that I can take her! How amazing is that! Finally, we work it out so that I arrive at the Gibson Amphitheatre (where the show is being held) to get started with Katy by 3:00 p.m.
June 6, 2010: 6:00 a.m. The Kardashian girls—Kris, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney—are shooting promo shots for the next season of Keeping up with the Kardashians and I get to work with them! It’s rare that there is ever more than one manicurist on a job, but today celebrity nail artist Ashley Johnson is on the set. This is the first time I’ve met her, and I love meeting other manicurists who I read about. After Ashley finishes Khloe’s nails and assists the hairdresser for a bit, we do Kourtney’s nails together. Ashley works on her feet while I’m perfecting her hands. Kourtney wears Nude from China Glaze; Kris chooses Essie’s Fiji polish; and Kim likes Wicked, also by Essie!
9:00 a.m. I finish with the Kardashians and head home for a quick nap. I have an 11:30 a.m. appointment with Eva Longoria Parker at her hairdresser’s salon. My niece is coming with me because we are going straight to the MTV Movie Awards after I finish with Eva, all because Katy Perry is amazing and gave us these tickets to the show! Thanks, Katy!
11:30 a.m. We arrive at the salon. I’m worried because I’m supposed to be working on Eva and doing polish changes on three of her girlfriends—we’re going to be tight on time! But it turns out Eva’s friends bailed and it’s just her. I’m so relieved because now I can get to Katy on time, no problem! I did Eva’s manicure while she was getting a shampoo, and I finish with her pedicure while she gets her hair blown out. Eva’s working on a new movie, so she just wants her fingernails buffed with her favorite polish, Sugar Daddy by Essie, on her toes.
