How to Create Shattered Glass Nails

shattered-glass-nailsshattered-glass-nailsAquarium nails and bubble nails both got a lot of media attention in the last few months, but the most widely spread trend in nail art right now is the shattered glass effect. The look entails slivers of iridescent mylar-like pieces arranged and spaced out on nails so they look like shards of broken glass.

There are a few different ways to achieve this design. Nail Artist Bel Fountain aka @sohotrightnail likes to use hoop tape (yes, the same kind they use for hula hoops – find it on hoopsupplies.com). It comes in a long roll just like Scotch tape, so all you need to do is cut it up into smaller pieces at random.

Nail artist Franziska Christensen of Fanzis.com recommends using reflective pearlescent sheets of papers – which can be found on Ebay here. Here’s a tutorial of how she uses them to create a shattered glass nail:
