We have been a fan of Sashanie Gray's (@sashaniegraynails) classy and beautiful nail tutorials for awhile, especially her stamping, so we were excited when she agreed to share her sources of inspiration.
According to Gray, "Nail art is a dynamic form of self-expression. I am mainly inspired by various facets of my guest’s life that guides me to creating unique and personalized designs."
Here are five key sources where Sashanie finds inspiration for her work:
1. Personal Narrative
I tend to encourage my guest to embark on a journey of self-discovery by translating her personal experiences into captivating nail art designs. Whether it's the colors of a cherished memory or symbols representing milestones in my guest’s life, incorporating elements from her personal narrative adds a touch of authenticity to her nail art. Each design element becomes an illustration of her life's canvas, making her nails a wearable memoir.
2. Personal Style
Your fashion sense is an integral part of who you are, and your nails can be an extension of your personal style. Each guest comes with her own fashion aesthetic, from bohemian chic to minimalist elegance, and can incorporate elements that resonate with her unique taste. Whether it's bold and vibrant designs or subtle and understated patterns, her nails will reflect her distinctive flair and individuality.
3. Colors and Their Energy
Colors possess a remarkable ability to evoke emotions and energies. A common practice for me is diving into the psychology of colors and choosing shades that align with my guest’s mood or desired energy. Warm hues like reds and oranges can exude passion and energy, while cool blues and greens may evoke a sense of calm. Experimenting with color combinations can create a visual symphony that not only looks stunning but also resonates with the vibes my guest wishes to convey.
4. Special Occasions
Celebrate life's special moments with nail art that complements the occasion. Whether it's a wedding, birthday or holiday celebration, tailoring my nail designs to match the festive spirit is also a great source of design inspiration. I like to play with thematic elements, such as glitter for celebrations, pastels for spring events or rich jewel tones for an elegant evening affair. Adorning her nails to mark special occasions can add a touch of festivity and joy to her overall look.
5. Budget-Friendly Creativity
Embracing your creativity while working within budget constraints can totally be done by opting for cost-effective and service-time-saving nail art techniques. Sometimes my guest may want a maximal styled design but has the budget for a quick design. This is where my time saving and cost-effective nail art mediums come into play. Being aware of my guest’s nail art budget allows for me strategize and conceptualize a design for her accordingly. My go-to’s are nail art stamping, my easy ombré with gel technique, cat eye gel polishes and more. You can still have a budget-friendly approach to nail art that can result in ingenious nail designs that proves creativity knows no bounds.
The world around you is a vast playground of inspiration for your nail art designs. Your nails are a canvas waiting to be painted with the colors of your life. As for my practice, I tend to draw inspiration from my guest’s personal narrative, infusing her style into the look, playing with the energy of colors and tailoring her art for special occasions, all while demonstrating budget-friendly creativity. I like letting her nails tell her story, and with each design element, showcasing a masterpiece that is uniquely her.
