Award Worthy Nails from the 2017 Oscars
From heartfelt acceptance speeches to a history-making flub, the 89th Academy Awards was a night to remember. To get ready for the Oscars, NAILPRO visited Miniluxe in Brentwood, Calif. to chat with celebrity manicurist and creative designer in residence, Debbie Leavitt, to talk red carpet trends before the big show.
“For the Oscars, we’re going to see a little metallic especially because things are so glam,” she said. “A lot of celebs are taking a break from gel and will go for that natural look in a clean and sheer nude. We are also going to see a very vampy and really dark nail look. It all depends on the dress.”

Nicole Kidman stunned on the Oscars red carpet in Armani Prive, Harry Winston and a Miniluxe rose gold hue nail polish on her manicure and pedicure. Leavitt used the five-free metallic lacquer polish to complement the star’s dress and skin tone. “Nicole wanted something nude and soft for her nails,” Leavitt said in a press release. “Rose gold is the new nude and this Miniluxe polish is soft and sheer with one coat and gives opaque coverage with two. I used two coats for Nicole.”
Leavitt opted for a dark red shade for Olivia Culpo in Essie Life Partner.
Oscar winner Viola Davis graced the red carpet in Mink Muff by Essie, a lavish smoky taupe that elongated her hands allowing her a stunning Armani Privé gown to take center stage.
Viola’s nails were done by celebrity manicurist Julie Kandalec.
Kandalec used two shades including Shantung and Rouge Noir in Chanel lacquer to create a custom color to perfectly match the ruby gown of best actress nominee Ruth Negga.
Actress Priyanka Chopra wore nails by celebrity manicurist Jolene Brodeur in Essie Gel Couture in Make the Cut, a pearlized nude greige.
“It was the perfect polish to accompany Priyanka’s geometric Ralph & Russo gown,” Brodeur said in a release.
Singer and actress Hailee Steinfeld wore Essie Buy Me A Cameo, nails by celebrity manicurist Rosanne Sollecito.
“The metallic floral accents of Hailee’s whimsical Ralph & Russo gown called for a matching lustrous manicure. Essie’s Buy Me A Cameo had the perfect amount of frosted shimmer to top off her fresh, modern look,” Sollecito said in a press release.
Model Chrissy Teigen graced the red carpet in Essie Topless & Barefoot with nails by celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees.
“Chrissy wanted to go with a classic nude polish to complement her embellished ivory Zuhair Murad gown. Essie’s Topless & Barefoot, a soft beige pink, completed her effortlessly beautiful look,” Kyees said in a press release.
Louise Roe flaunted a feminine look using Orly Coffee Break nail lacquer with nails by ORLY nail pro Carla Collier.
“We went wit ha subtle nude to perfect complement Louise’s stunning, shimmering dress,” Collier said in a press release.
For Heidi Klum, celebrity nail pro Tom Bachik emphasized the model’s natural nail length topped the long, square shape with a nude shade.
Bachik used a dark wine shade on actress Scarlett Johansson.
Celebrity nail artist Fariha Ali used Vetro USA 224 Mysterious Nude to offset the gorgeous gown on Busy Phillipps.
Actress Emma Roberts wore a deep oxblood color with nails by celebrity manicurist Jenna Hipp.
