Q&A:

Nailpro (NP): What is a fun fact about you?

Katelyn Paulson (KP): I’m a big Disney fan! I'm a doodle mom to two pups! Their names are Reggie and Maggie.

NP: How did you get started as a nail tech?

KP: I've always loved painting my nails. You know the crackle polish? I used that polish until the bottle was empty! I also had encouragement from my parents to pursue becoming a nail tech. I've been licensed since 2014, and it’s crazy to think about how I will hit 10 years this year!

NP: What do you love about your job?

KP: What I love most is that I get to help the people that sit in my chair feel confident, beautiful and like they feel listened to. I also love having clients that trust me enough to let me have free reign to do whatever I want design-wise! I also strive to have a good platform on social media where I can be helpful, troubleshoot issues and also answer questions.

NP: Where do you find inspiration?

KP: I find inspiration from everywhere: paintings, buildings, wallpaper, decorations, other nail technicians, digital art and social media.

NP: What is a piece of advice you would give other nail technicians who are just getting started?

KP: All of these nail technicians you follow and admire all started where you are at. There are going to be mistakes and failures, but never give up. You will find your dream clientele. It takes time and boundaries. Also, don't forget to practice, practice, practice!

NP: What is your favorite nail trend right now?

KP: My top one is anything to do with chrome: full nail chrome, chrome art and chrome French.

NP: What is your favorite service to offer?

KP: I love anything to do with nail art. I specialize in hand-drawn art, but I also love the whole service from start to finish.

NP: What is one of your proudest achievements as a nail tech?

KP: Being chosen to get featured in Nailpro Magazine.

NP: What do you love about the nail community/industry?

KP: When I started, the community was not how it is now. I truly appreciate that the industry is changing for the better! It’s all about being helpful! Being willing to share products, tips and tricks goes such a long way in helping all nail techs whether they’re seasoned, intermediate or a newbie.

NP: What are your top goals as a nail tech?

KP: My top goals as a nail tech are to do online classes, share my knowledge and show more of my personality on social media. I also want to be the person that anybody can come to and get no judgment from – just a simple, heartfelt and helpful answer.
