Refrigerating Nail Polish Might Sound Like a Better Idea Than It Is

It sounds like a no-brainer: Store your nail polish in the refrigerator to help keep the formula fresh for a longer period. But could this approach do more harm than good?

In a recent article from mindbodygreen.com, chief educator of Paintbox Evenly Lim said that storing bottles of polish in the refrigerator causes them to become “sticky, thick and quite difficult to sweep on.” In short, the refrigerator approach may do the opposite of what you are trying to achieve.

In the article, Lim recommends utilizing a fridge if you live in a hot or humid environment; however, keeping the bottles chilled forever may harden the lacquer. Her best advice for keeping nail polish lasting longer is avoiding extreme hot and cold temperatures. A cool, dry area (read: a closet or drawer) is a safe bet for effective nail polish storage.
