Nail and hair services were on the menu at the Downtown Women’s Center, dedicated to addressing the needs of women overcoming poverty and homelessness in Skid Row, in Los Angeles on November 13. For the second year in a row, a select group of beauty brands, including Essie, Matrix, L’Oreal Professional, Mizani, Kerastase, Pureology, NYX Cosmetics, Redken and Decleor, teamed up to provide more than 100 local homeless women with beauty treatments.
According to Gino Trunzo, director of education for Essie Professional, when the event’s creator, Matrix artistic director Lenny Strand, asked if Essie would like to participate, he didn’t hesitate to say yes. “We will do this event as long as it’s held,” says Trunzo, who was joined by 10 nail technicians from Southern California who also volunteered their time and talents. “It really puts into perspective how fortunate we are.”
