Retire your gold for the season; the runways championed silver as the precious metal to shine. Not surprisingly, silver received a high-contrast boost from black, but how designers merged the two hues ran the gamut. At Christopher Kane, the dynamic duo oozed romanticism as a 3-D floral jacquard gown with lace detailing. Light-years ahead, glossy bands at Balmain and reflective circular studs at David Koma brought a futuristic vibe to cocktail dresses in line with the Atomic Age aesthetic. Sterling and ebony even received a countrified rendering as a sheer plaid frock at Alberta Ferretti—a look that city folk will especially take a shine to. How do silver and black team up for nail art? Quite easily, if you follow guest artist and CND education ambassador Tamara Di Lullo’s lead. Incorporate holographic striping tape to invoke the trend’s futuristic side, tap into embossing and foil for whimsy or sculpt your way to antiqued 3-D silver detailing, as Di Lullo does with a liquid-and-powder belt.
