The third annual Nail Tech Networking Event of the Smokies, held in the heart of the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in June attracted more than 100 nail technicians—and they definitely proved that the beauty industry isn’t hampered by the economy.
“I think the event was successful, especially considering the first event was started in June 2008, right as the recession was starting to unfold,” says organizer Jill Wright, owner of Jill’s—A Place for Nails in Bowling Green, Kentucky. “The fact that it’s grown with each subsequent year is a testament to the desire of techs in the southern region who obviously want more nail education!”
Because of the popularity of this year’s event, next year, Wright plans to expand from 3,000 square feet to 12,000 square feet, add six classrooms for private nail and business classes; a board room for a medical pedicure class from industry expert Janet McCormick; and a 4,000 square foot banquet room for a class by Young Nails educator and nail technician G. Elizondo.
“This event is an up-close and personal way for techs to have all their questions answered,” emphasizes EzFlow educator Michele Baker. “They can learn new techniques and troubleshoot any problems they may be having in an environment that encourages and supports each technician, from the newbie to the old hand.”
