For Caitlyn Jenner’s world debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, it was essential that she have the proper glam squad backing her up. From the interview with Diane Sawyer, we learned that one thing Jenner anticipated the most in the road ahead was the opportunity to “have my nail polish on long enough that it actually chips off.”
Previously, the former Olympian had only ever done her own nails at home – but for such a momentous occasion, renowned manicurist Deborah Lippmann stepped in to give Jenner her first professional manicure.
Though the nails are hidden from the cover, you will see them in the inside spread of Vanity Fair. Lippmann pampered and prepped hands and cuticles, filed nails to a natural almond shape, and applied classic red lacquer in Lady Is a Tramp. Lippmann added, “Of course Caitlyn laughed when I told her the name of the shade!”
Lippmann told Vanity Fair, “Looking back on my career, this shoot was historic on so many levels, because I realized how important nails are to transgender women… Nothing compared to this cover. It opened my heart, and it opened my eyes, and I feel so blessed to be a part of it.”
