The Making of NAILPRO’s Creating the December 2018 Holiday Cover with ORLY

Trends in nails run the gamut, from all of the color to uncomplicated nude. But today’s look du jour is building design on top of a crystal clear base. However, it’s not simply the nail plate that’s clear; it’s the glasslike effect in the extension edge that’s garnering all of the attention. While creating this look may seem like a hassle to achieve, think again, as this month’s cover artist, Brittney Boyce, attests. She uses ORLY’s new Builder in a Bottle on the regular for her clients in the salon and showed us how easy it is to use on the cover set. Boyce’s best tip? “Long, slow strokes,” she says, as this will keep bubbles from forming. To highlight the clarity in the tips, Boyce then added hints of GelFX Lucid Dream (one of the dazzling hues in ORLY’s holiday 2018 collection, Deep Wonder) as well as swatches of gold glitter gel polish randomly across the nails. And what are crystalline nails without, well, crystals? Boyce added a few touches at the smile line and base of the nail to finish off the sparkling effect.
