Nail Art Tutorial: Chinese New Year Nails

Chinese New Year Nails Foil

Chinese New Year 2015 is February 19 – and it’s the Year of the Sheep. Give clients a fun metallic manicure to celebrate! By using Gelish with your foil, you can lay down a base color and then use Gelish Top It Off Sealer to get the foil to stik in the swirl designs you see here. Here’s how:

Step 1: After removing the shine from the natural nail plate, apply Gelish Nail Surface Cleanse to a lint-free nail wipe to remove any dust. Apply Gelish pH Bond to the natural nail plate.

Step 2: Apply a thin coat of Gelish Foundation making sure to cap the free edge. Cure the nails under the LED 18G light for 5 seconds or a UV light for 1 minute. Using a clean gel brush or a lint-free nail wipe, remove the excess Foundation from the nail plate.

Step 3: Apply a thin coat of Gelish Lucky Lady to the entire nail plate making sure to cap the free edge. Cure the nails under the LED 18G light for 30 seconds or under a UV light for 2 minutes. Repeat for full coverage.

Step 4: Apply a thin coat of Gelish Matte Top It Off to the entire nail, making sure to cap the free edge. Cure the nails under the LED 18G light for 30 seconds or a UV light for 2 minutes.

Step 5: Using Gelish Nail Surface Cleanse and a lint-free nail wipe, remove the tacky residue on the nail surface, to show the matte finish on the nail. Then using a Gelish Striper Brush and the Gelish Top It Off Sealer, draw two horizontal lines side by side then cure under the LED 18G light for 30 seconds or under a UV light for 2 minutes.

Step 6: Use the Gelish Mini Striper Brush to draw some decorative spiral circles in the middle of the two lines. Cure the nails under the LED 18G light for 30 seconds or a UV light for 2 minutes. After waiting for 30 seconds, place the blue foil on the top of the design then apply some pressure on the blue tint foil to transfer the foil to the design. Apply Gelish Top It Off Sealer to the entire nail bed and cure in the LED 18G light for 30 seconds or under a UV light for 2 minutes.

Step 7: Remove the tacky residue on nails with Gelish Nail Surface Cleanse and a lint-free nail wipe. Apply Gelish Nourish Cuticle Oil to add moisture into the cuticle and the skin surrounding the nail.
