For consumers, sanitation in a salon should always be a concern. Most states have strict guidelines on sanitation to help the spread of infection or disease. To ensure your salon is following guidelines, visit your state board website to see how a salon has been graded. OPI global educator Sigourney Nunez provides some salon sanitation tips.

– Dispose of used files and other disposable items.
– Clear dust off table and supplies.
– Clean and sanitize tools and implements.
– Ensure both you and your clients wash their hands before and after performing services and wear new clean gloves.
– Wear a mask if you feel that you are at risk.
– Keep your hands on the manicure table during the service without touching your face or phone.
– Do not eat or drink during the services.
– Foot spas should be cleaned and disinfected between all clients. Proper disinfection should take no less than 15 minutes.
– Properly disinfect between each client by wiping down surfaces, lamps and any other items on the tabletop with disinfectant.
