PBA Hosts Webinar on Ethical Salon Management

In May of 2015, the New York Times concluded an investigation where they uncovered illegal employment practices in a small fraction of New York City’s nail salons. Although only a segment of the nation’s estimated 17,000 nail salons were the focus of this investigation, it painted a negative picture on the nail industry. We know our readers aren’t the same type of salon owners described in the article, but we know this has opened up a whole new conversation about standards in the industry.
To help educate nail industry professionals, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) partnered with Tina Alberino, an independent educator, salon management consultant, and beauty industry advocate to host a webinar titled, “Not in My Salon: Best Practices for Ethical Nail Salon Management.”  During the 45-minute webinar, Ms. Alberino discussed employee wage and benefits that foster healthy conditions and best management practices for employee retention. Participants also received insight on how to avoid employee exploitation and how to effectively communicate with staff and clients.
This webinar, targeted toward nail salon owners and managers, is now available on-demand at probeauty.org/eduonline. You can visit probeauty.org to become a member and then gain access to PBA’s full library of on-demand webinars and other valuable resources designed to help advance your career.
