Who knew furnishings would play such a big role in this season’s fashions? Designers (perhaps presciently?) tapped into the familiarities of our homes where we’re spending so much more time these days, churning out pieces that played to the textures of our most prized creature comforts. At Area, head-to-toe chevron panels of “wood” mimicked the design intricacies of a high-end coffee table. Shirtdresses at Moschino mirrored the blue pastoral scenes of the finest Wedgewood China—certainly a less breakable form of the iconic print. A floor-sweeping sleeveless coatdress at Marni opened to reveal the human form, much like drawing open thick curtains to let in the sun. What could very well be a Persian rug’s doppelganger cut a fine figure as a skirt-and-sweater combo at Paco Rabanne. Even beds had their moment to shine on the runways: Thick quilted materials at Erdem looked snuggly enough to sleep in. While we all might be looking to escape the confines of our homes, settling into some nail art inspired by what’s within our four walls has never felt so freeing. Take a cue from guest artist Aja Walton: Mold the plush 3-D texture of a quilt with carving gel, simulate the wooly look of a Persian rug using flocking powder or hand-paint the delicate detailing of Wedgewood China with a fine-tipped nail art brush.
