How-To: Regan 'The Exorcist'

The Halloween season is never short on intricate nail designs. This year has proven no different. 

Here Yatzy M.C (@nails.by.yatzy), a nail technician in Orlando, Florida, shares a step-by-step tutorial for creating the Regan character from "The Exorcist."

Tutorial

Step 1 : Paint the entire nail with a jet black gel polish and cure for 30 seconds.

Step 2: Draw a horizontal line and vertical line looking like a letter T or cross using white gel polish.

Step 3: Draw a oval around it using the same white gel polish.

Step 4: Fill in the entire oval with white gel polish.

Step 5: Using a shading gel, draw a letter Y and a horizontal and vertical line (don’t cure).

Step 6: Using white gel draw the white part for the eyes.

Step 7: With a flat brush and acetone, remove Step 5. Use shading gel to draw the nose. 

Step 8: Highlight around the eyes and nose with black gel.

Step 9: Use black gel to shade around the eyes (don’t cure) lightly dab with a flat ombré brush to fade it away. Then cure for 60 seconds.

Step 10: Use a dotting tool and place in the center of the eyes using a light green polish. Cure for 30 seconds.

Step 11: Draw two lines going down to create the smile and draw Reagan’s mouth using shading gel.

Step 12: Use a dotting tool again and add a black point for Regan’s pupil.

Step 13: Draw Regan’s teeth (make it look as rotted as you can).

Step 14: Use shading gel to create Regan’s scars.

Step 15: Use darker black to highlight her scars to make them look more realistic.

Step 16: Use a dark red to make her scars look bloody.

Step 17: Draw strands of hair using different shades of brown.

Step 18: Using the same light green gel we used for the eyes, dab some around her mouth to make it look like she puked. Cure for 30 seconds.

Step 19: Add more line details around the nose to make it look scrunched. Cure for 60 seconds.

Step 20: Apply matte topcoat, then cure for 60 seconds. Wipe off the shiny layer with alcohol.
