Shaylyn Birch (@naileditwithshay) shares five things that inspire her nail art.
We love when new nail talent crosses our paths, so we were excited when Shaylyn Birch won the Utah Nail Expo contest and with it a feature in Nailpro. She goes by Shay, and her love and passion for art shines bright through her designs. Though she started her career as a pharmacy tech, the pandemic inspired her to look for something new and pursue nails. We are so glad she did!
1. ART

Ever since I could remember, art has played such an important role in my life. Art has been a form of how I can express how I am feeling besides writing it all down into words. I love the movements of different textures of paints and materials. I love that I get to paint on these tiny canvases (nails) every day and get to call this my job, although it does not feel like one. I love that I can help my clients express themselves through nail art.

I have gotten so close with them and am so grateful to call some of them my friends. I love seeing my clients happy and that I can help them feel beautiful. I don’t know where I would be without them!

Probably one of the most influential things that inspires my work daily is nature — the beauty of many shapes, colors, textures and sizes that I can explore with nail art. Creating florals or painting a sunset has also inspired me to be grounded when things can get stressful or tough and to remind me to enjoy the things we have right in front of us.
4. MY CHILDHOOD

Over the past few years of being a nail artist, I have learned so much. I remember how much my younger sister and I loved nail art. Right before going to nail school, it was a reminder of why I have such a big love for nails now. My childhood has inspired me to explore, learn new things, not take things so seriously and to be goofy and have fun with it all!
