The Making of NAILPRO’s Creating the February 2019 Cover

When it came to conceiving a nail look for the cover of our “Natural Issue,” I immediately thought of Santa Monica, California-based nail artist Katie Masters. Her gorgeous rose quartz nails have garnered so much attention among her clients and on social media, they’ve practically become her signature style. So, when we presented the theme to her, she opted for her go-to look. This design, which Masters says is ideal for natural nails, gives those clients who want something a little more adventurous an art option while still remaining subtle. Plus, it’s easy and quick to do: Simply apply white lines randomly across the base nail color, then use a clean gel brush to feather the white gel. Once happy with your design, cure. Then, top the design with any sheer color gel that you desire. Masters finished off the look with a hand-painted gold cuff on each nail. “Doing this frames the design and makes it look more finished,” she explains. Don’t like a cuff? Frame the entire nail or create a super-thin French tip. Not a fan of gold? Try silver, bronze or rose gold. This simple nail art allows for tons of options and proves that sometimes the simplest designs make the biggest impact.
