Get to know Charlie Dang (@artbycharlies). She is a 25-year-old nail tech at The Little Nail Shop San Diego in San Diego, CA.
Q&A:
Nailpro (NP): What is a fun fact about you?
Charlie Dang (CD): I love to collect collectibles, like toys and figures, especially if they are mini!
NP: How did you get your start as a nail tech?
CD: I started working as a nail tech when I was 17 as a part-time job while going to school to help support my college.
NP: What do you love about your job?
CD: I love to make people’s dream nails come true! I’ve always loved to paint and draw, so by creating nail art, not only do I satisfy my passion for painting, but I can also bring happiness to my clients.
NP: Where do you find inspiration?
CD: I usually find inspiration from other nail techs’ works and make my own twists. I also do research on Pinterest boards for ideas when my clients ask for a specific theme.
NP: What is a piece of advice you would give other nail technicians who are just getting started?
CD: Always practice your skills, don’t be afraid to make mistakes and always be open to try different types of nail art!
NP: What is your favorite nail trend right now?
CD: Currently, I love glow in the dark powders. They are so fun to create and play around with gel colors.
NP: What is your favorite service to offer?
CD: My favorite service would be either working with acrylic powder or hard gel extensions with the artist's choice of nail art.
NP: What is one of your proudest achievements as a nail tech?
CD: Being selected 30 Under 30 for Nailpro Magazine is definitely one of my proudest achievements so far.
NP: What do you love about the nail community/industry?
CD: I love how creative the industry is. Everyone is so talented in their own unique ways. At the end of the day, we all want to create art and provide the best services to our clients.
NP: What are your top goals as a nail tech?
CD: My goal is to keep expanding and growing my brand as an individual artist. I want to share my art to everyone around the world and especially showcase my love for nail art.
