We are spotlighting the winners of Nailpro’s 30 Under 30 competition for 2023, featuring 30 nail artists under 30 years of age.
Get to know Avery Martin (@avesnailworld). She is a 23-year-old nail tech at Aves Nail World in Sacramento, CA.
Q&A:
Nailpro (NP): What is a fun fact about you?
Avery Martin (AM): I am ambidextrous. I didn’t use to be, but after five years of doing my own nails, my left hand has gotten pretty useful.
NP: How did you get your start as a nail tech?
AM: I got started as a nail tech just two weeks after I graduated high school. I have always been an artist my entire life, so I was trying to come up with something I could make solid consistent money on, while also getting to do what I love every day and make art. I was too scared to go into tattooing, so nails are where I landed!
NP: What do you love about your job?
AM: I love that my job doesn’t feel like a job. I’m never “working.” I hang out with beautiful women and connect with them while putting my art on them. It's so special to me.
NP: Where do you find inspiration?
AM: I find my inspiration from keeping up with other nail techs and by getting to know my clients and what they like. A lot of my clients let me just freestyle, so I try to match the set to their personal style.
NP: What is a piece of advice you would give other nail technicians who are just getting started?
AM: A piece of advice I would give to nail techs just starting is that you can never let yourself think you know it all. You will always be learning. I’ve been doing nails for five years now, and I still switch up the way I do things when I learn a better way to do it.
NP: What is your favorite nail trend right now?
AM: My favorite nail trend right now is anything spooky!!! I love love love Halloween art.
NP: What is your favorite service to offer?
AM: My favorite service to offer is sculpted acrylics, with lots of handpainted art.
NP: What is one of your proudest achievements as a nail tech?
AM: I recently just hit 10k followers, so that was a good achievement.
NP: What are your top goals as a nail tech?
AM: My top goals for the future is to continue growing my business account and eventually move into just being a nail influencer, not taking clients all day, every day. I love my clients to death and will always keep a few of them around that I’ve become friends with, but my carpal tunnel doesn’t love 10 hours of filing nails anymore.
