Raising Awareness

An industry association wants salons to take the pledge to stop domestic violence.

Breast cancer awareness isn’t the only cause working to be visible during October. This month also is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

To assist the effort, the Professional Beauty Association/National Cosmetology Association (PBA/NCA) is seeking support for the CUT IT OUT 2010 Campaign, which kicked off during PBA Beauty Week in July.

The CUT IT OUT 2010 Campaign is simple—beauty professionals sign the pledge at cutitout.org, receive the campaign materials and display them at front desks, individual stations and in all restrooms of their salons. Simply displaying the materials will truly help someone who may be suffering in silence, according to the association.

CUT IT OUT is a program of the Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund, dedicated to mobilizing salon professionals and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse in the United States. CUT IT OUT builds awareness of domestic abuse and trains salon professionals to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to local resources.

The campaign challenges the professional beauty industry to take a stand against domestic violence and asks that 2,010 salons and/or individual beauty professionals make a pledge this year to use the power of beauty to end domestic abuse in America by displaying awareness materials.

To sign the pledge and receive materials to display in your salon, please visit cutitout.org.
