A Pitcher’s Pedicure

Pitcherstoes WebWhen it comes to professional athletes, the last thing you’d expect to hear from them are declarations of their girlish tendencies. But that’s exactly what the Twitter universe got this week when Joel Hanrahan, pitcher for the Pittsburg Pirates, tweeted photos during his pedicure date night with his wife.

Hanrahan tweeted a photo of his left foot painted pink and purple to support awareness of breast and prostate cancers. The nails on his right foot were black and yellow—Pirates’ colors. It must have been a relaxing pedicure because Hanrahan went on to pitch a perfect ninth inning against the Baltimore Orioles the following night.

And in Pittsburgh men’s nail care seems to be catching on. Steelers defensive linebacker James Harrison tweeted a photo of his hand saying, “Think it’s time to get my nails taken care of!” Only time will tell if Harrison chooses to show his team support with black and gold polish. Personally we think gold with OPI’s Black Shatter would be fabulous!—Bekki Roth
