Nail Artist Q&A: "Nailed Down!" with Karolina Osinska!
Welcome to NAILPRO's NAILED DOWN where we “nail down” the details of selected nail design artists from our User Galleries.
This week we go around the globe to Sosnowiec, Poland!
Meet Karolina Osinska (aka Mesiasz Ciszy):
Where do you work?
I don't work in salon. Nail art is just my big passion. But if there is a proposition to make some designs, I will gladly take the job! ;)
How would you describe yourself?
I'm hard-working, nice but a shy person. I love art, making hand-made items, and improving my skills. Big fan of manga and all what is sweet ^__^ .
Tell us about how you got started in the nail industry.
By accident really. Exactly May 20th, 2011. I found a video contest on YouTube for making Kawaii Manga nails. Before that I didn't pay attention to my nails. I didn't even know that people made those kind of designs on nails. I'm a fan of Manga, so I wanted to participate. I made one design using my old nail polishes. I spent many hours doing it, and got sick from inhaling them. I decided that doing nails was not for me. But then one YouTube user (who does nails) convinced me to try again - but using acrylic paint instead. That was it! From that point on, I loved nail art and I still want to improve myself. :)
What/Who inspires your work?
Hard question. I try to be creative. I like magical designs. Or most of the time the organizer gives a topic. But I still have hundreds of ideas.
Do you have any tool(s) you can't live without?
Fine brushes and nib for ink painting.
Do you have a favorite technique or style?
UV gel and ink painting.
What is your funniest/craziest nail story?
Once I found in the Polish nail magazine, Akademia Paznokcia, information about a contest. You had to make a design using acrylic paints. I was really happy to participate but everyone (even my fiancee) told me that it would be hard. It's a professional magazine after all. I was sad but I agreed with them. But the day before the end of the contest, I decided to make that design anyway. Imagine my (and my fiancee's) face when my design was in that magazine as one of the winners! So I learned that you just have to do what you want and not what everyone else wants you to do. After that, I believed in my skills, and I stopped considering myself a total beginner in nail art.
What tip can you offer to other nail technicians?
Try using ink for designs. It's great fun to do!
