Short nails can be beautiful! Though the canvas might be a little smaller, clipped back nails...
Nail Artist Q&A: "Nailed Down!" with Veronika Wallace!
Welcome to NAILPRO's Nailed Down! where we “nail down” nail artists and technicians from our User Galleries and get to know them and their amazing work!
This week we visit Germany.
Meet Veronika Wallace:
Where do you work?
I have a home studio. I represent my work as "Veronika Wallace - certificated Nailstylist"
How would you describe yourself?
That's a tough one. It's hard to judge your own qualities and flaws. :)
How did you get started in the nail industry?
I started when my Nail Technician asked me if I'd like her to train me. Every time a nail broke, I fixed it myself and she thought I had talent. Unfortunately, I had to stop the training, but started again a couple of years later. First I did my own nails. Then I took classes and needed models for those. Six months later, I realized my models stuck with me, so I decided to make it my profession and never regretted that step. In Germany, there are no regulations about becoming a Nail Technician. No amount of college or training hours required, etc. Everyone can do it with or without training. I fell so in love with my job that I kept booking classes with awesome Nail Technicians who were known world wide. Then I became a trainer for Odyssey Nail Systems in Germany. Now I am a freelancer trainer.
What/Who inspires your work?
Many great Nail Technicians all over the world: Catherine Wong, David Fowler, Stefanie LoRe, Milena Bogasow and many more. But I get inspired everywhere. From fashion shows to a flower out in the field.
Are there any tools you can't live without?
What is your favorite technique/style?
All the ones I know. I love being flexible and working with different techniques. I like to mix them up.
What is your craziest/funniest nail story?
I was doing a refill in UV-Gel and told my client, "Go in the lamp." She held her hand under my light on the table! It took her a minute to realize she needed to put her hand in the UV Lamp.
What tip can you offer other nail technicians?
Be open, be crazy, try new things, walk through the world with open eyes and you will find a trillion possibilities for nail art. And never, ever stop training!
