Nail Artist Q&A: “Nailed Down!” with Tessa Jorgensen

Tessa Jorgensen Composit

Welcome to NAILPRO’s NAILED DOWN where we “nail down” the details of selected nail design artists from our User Galleries.

This week we visit Sioux City, Iowa.

Meet Tessa Jorgensen:

Where do you do nails?
I am a student at the Iowa School of Beauty.

How would you describe yourself?
I have a big personality! I love to laugh and joke around and have fun, but I take my work and my loved ones seriously. I love being a wife and a mother and I always look for the bright side.

Tell us about how you got started in the nail industry.
I’m currently attending the Iowa School of Beauty for cosmetology, but once we started doing manicures and acrylics, I fell in love with nails.

What/Who inspires your work?
My instructor, Sheila Geary, has been my biggest influence. She was the one who taught me how to do nails and she continues to aid me in my education. She encourages me in so many ways.

Are there any tool(s) you can’t live without?
My pink cutter and my Medicool drill.

Do you have a favorite technique or style?
Three ball system with gel overlay.

What is your craziest/funniest nail story?
My fellow student, Ashley, wanted a full set on a day she wasn’t feeling the best. She kept falling asleep in my chair and even started snoring at one point. She kept apologizing for falling asleep and saying she couldn’t figure out why she was so tired. Later, she came to me and said she forgot that she had taken two Benedryls right before our session!

What tip can you offer to other nail technicians?
Really care about the quality of your work. Your clients really appreciate you taking the time to care about how their nails look when they get out of your chair.

Anything else you’d like to add?
I love NAILPRO magazine and I can’t wait to see each new issue!
