Nail Artist Q&A: "Nailed Down!" with Lori Ryan!
Welcome to NAILPRO's Nailed Down! where we “nail down” nail artists and technicians from our User Galleries and get to know them and their amazing work!
This week we visit Bullhead City, Arizona!
Meet Lori Ryan:
Where do you work?
Bentley Place Hair Design.
How would you describe yourself?
I am a 56 year old retired business owner, married for 31 years and a mother of 5.
How did you get started in the nail industry?
What can I say, I love the beauty industry. I went to Richards Beauty College in Ontario, California and graduated in 1975. After retiring from my vehicle registration and law compliance business in 2011, I decided to go back to school and learn about the nail industry. Back in 1975, the artificial nail industry had not taken off yet. I really love how creative you can be with nails.
What/Who inspires your work?
My clients. They show me pictures from Pinterest or other places on the internet and we change it up a bit and it always comes out great.
Are there any tools you can't live without?
My Valentino Fan.
What is your favorite technique/style?
I really love it all but my favorite in Amazing Nail Concepts Powder Dipping System.
What is your craziest/funniest nail story?
There are so many. I had just gotten my license and was doing my daughter's nails and thought I would try and do some 3D art by making acrylic Easter eggs and decorating the eggs with acrylic paint. I was so proud I showed my husband and he said there were "okay." I said "Okay! I worked hard on those!" He said, "Hard! How hard is it to put on stickers?" I explained how I made them and he started laughing saying he was sorry, they looked really good. (see picture in gallery below!)
What tip can you offer other nail technicians?
You have to have compassion for what you do and all the rest will just fit in.
Anything else you'd like to add?
I have been doing nails for only a year and I have a 2 week waiting list. I never thought I would be this busy this soon. If you love what you do, people can feel it. Just don't go through the motions. Do it right and have lots of fun doing it!
Would you like to be featured in NAILED DOWN? Post images of your nail art to our User Gallery. We'll be highlighting outstanding artists based on those submissions! (minimum six pictures to qualify for consideration) NAILPRO reserves the right to edit submissions for length, grammar and clarity.
