Tie the Knot

Design beautiful nails for beautiful brides.

By Pam Minch

June is traditionally the month that hosts more happily-ever-afters than any other time of the year, and your clients will say “I do” to this month’s elegant designs provided by two creative readers.

The blushing bride will toast her talented nail tech when you offer her the three nail designs from Audrey Watabe. Throwing the bouquet will be an unforgettable affair while she wears a design with Watabe’s white roses or embedded rice grains. And no walk down the aisle is complete without a little sparkle—using rhinestones, bullion or both—on her nails.

Whether your client is the bride or a member of the bridal party, she’ll love the lavender bouquet that Tami Bice, an instructor in Charleston, South Carolina, has designed for her special occasion. For timeless elegance and a personalized touch, custom blend the shades of the flowers to match the wedding’s color scheme.

As your client progresses from sending engraved invitations to hanging a “Just Married” sign in her car window, you’ll play an instrumental role in making her dream day one that she’ll remember long after the honeymoon ends.

Brush Up
You can use lace in endless ways when designing bridal nails: Glue tiny strips of the fabric directly on the nail, or simply paint a lace pattern (use white on an ivory nail, for example). Tip: Add a shimmering top coat before you paint the pattern to lend added dimension to the design.

With This Ring
1 Polish the nail with a frosty white that has silver shimmer.
2 Polish the tip with an iridescent glitter polish. On the very edge of the tip, paint a thin strip with the frosty white polish you applied on the nail bed.
3 Apply two rows of crystal rhinestones to the nail.
4 Paint or stamp two white roses, leaves and stems on the nail. Apply top coat to seal the design.

Throwing Rice
1 Polish the entire nail frosty white.
2 Apply top coat on the entire nail. While the layer remains tacky, place grains of rice at the free edge.
3 Add silver bullion between the rice grains. Polish the rice with the same frosty white. Encase with top coat.

June Bride
1 Apply masking tape in the shape of a heart to the center of the nail. Apply pearly white polish over the nail, making the edges of the polish appear scalloped, and leave a section near the cuticle area unpolished.
2 Once the polish is dry, remove the tape and paint the word “love” inside the unpolished heart area with a fine-tipped brush.
3 Paint three or four gray wispy lines that extend up from the corner of the free edge.
4 Affix gold bullion to the scalloped edge. Finish with top coat.

Lavender Bouquet
1 Polish the nail with shimmering silver.
2 Paint a diagonal French tip with purple; add highlights with white paint.
3 Paint three or four gray wispy lines that extend up from the corner of the free edge.
4 Add purple buds and highlight them with white pain.
5 Paint tiny purple and white accent dots. Finish with top coat.
