Feather Manicures

Main image:

Senior editor Stephanie Mills and I applied pretty plumes to some of our favorite new polishes. The application isn't too difficult, and once you get the hang of it, it's fine feathering from there!

The trick is to get the correct feather and size it appropriately. Then, carefully lay the feather onto polish and top it with top coat. The colors will change due to the top coat, so be aware of that prior to choosing your little frock.

In NAILPRO's October issue, we'll feature Feather Nails in Workshop, so be on the look out for that.

Polishes favored for this fun were lavender Cocktail Bling from Essie's Winter 2011 Cocktail Bling Collection and Divine Swine (as in THE Ms. Piggy) from OPI's Muppet Collection on Stephanie. I am wearing black polish topped with Rainbow Connection glitter from the Muppet Collection and Stalkarazzi from The Painted Nail nail lacquers.

Ugh, I'm jealous! Those turned out so good. Super cute.

Those are awesome where would I find the feathers?

were can i find the feathers ?

We found these at Michaels! We bought the assorted bag of colored feathers (ask a Michael's associate if you can't locate) and then sorted by size. On my nail, the feather was actually that size--tiny!--but we trimmed Megan's feather down using nail scissors and a nipper. Hope this helps!
