Deco Miami for MAJ Designs Ever wonder how lacquer brands come up with the nail looks for Fashion Week? Deco Miami is no stranger to the catwalk, but this year the Miami-based polish manufacturer commanded attention on the runways with au courant manis at the Kim Shui, Atelier Kate, Klad Apparel, MAJ Designs, Nicole Bell and PH5 runway shows. We asked Deco Miami founder Jules to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process.
Here, she reveals how her nail team came up with the show-stopping designs.
NAILPRO: What was the inspiration for the nail designs at New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018?
Jules: Minimalist nail looks are in vogue at the moment, so all three shows featured dual-color nail art designs that anyone can wear.
Deco Miami for Kim ShuiNP: How did your team decide on the different looks for the shows?
J: Deco Miami worked closely with AMCONYC [the production company behind New York Fashion Week]. It was important to AMCONYC beauty director Rachel Toledo that the designs and colors reflect the fashion collections while also maintaining a unique quality in relation to the other shows.
NP: Tell us about the thought process behind some of your favorite nail art looks from the runway.
J: At MAJ Designs, nail lead Grace Kingsley created a nude nail with a bright red half moon to match the models’ red lipstick. Atelier Kate wanted a “goth” style, so we opted for an on-trend matte black and oxblood look. And the nails/makeup at Nicole Bell were inspired by geishas after the designer’s recent trip to Japan.
