Meet Lorena Marquez, veteran nail artist and director of education for INM!

Us: What was your first job ever?  
Marquez: I worked as a swim instructor and lifeguard for the City of Watsonville Parks and Recreation Department in California. I continued to do that for the next five summers.

What was your first job in the industry?  
I was 19 when I got my manicuring license, and I worked at a salon as a contractor for six months before opening my own salon.

Who would you like to work with?
I think it would be fun and interesting to do any of the Real Housewives’ nails!

What inspires you?
Nail techs from around the world; they’re so talented and eager to learn.

What was your proudest accomplishment?
I am most proud of being a mom to my 20-year-old son Justin. We are extremely close; I could not imagine my life without him.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
When I was a senior in high school and I was cheerleading at our football homecoming game and fell in front of everyone, hurt my leg and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. So embarrassing!

My favorite type of music is…
I love almost all types of music but recently have really started to like country music.

My favorite movie is…
The Lake House

Describe your perfect day.
Waking up late to a wonderful cup of coffee, taking my dog for a walk, lounging in the sun and having a nice quiet dinner at home.

Are you a morning or night person?
Definitely a night person!

What is your most treasured possession?
Pictures of my mama; may she rest in peace.
