Beauty Bus Visits SMA Patient

It’s safe to say that beauty can do wonders in our lives. With the simple swipe of a bright lipstick to choosing the perfect color of nail polish, beauty can definitely brighten up someone’s day, which is what the Beauty Bus had in mind.

For the past five years, the Beauty Bus has been visiting a Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) for monthly manicures and pedicures with home visits from volunteers Patti Amaral and Letrice Lopez, accompanied by Marianne Dougherty, the 2017 Beauty Drive honoree.

“What I’ve learned from my years in this industry is that most beauty professionals are less motivated by money than they are by the desire to make people look good and feel good about themselves,” said Dougherty in a press release. “Ultimately it wasn’t the manicure and pedicure that made this home visit so special.”

The Beauty Bus was founded in 2009, and has been providing beauty and grooming services to chronically and terminally ill patients and their caregivers. Hairdressers, nail techs and makeup artists volunteer providing their services with compassion and thoughtfulness.
